CONSTRUCTING

Flawless Sky Studio B

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A look into the room:

this architectural room simulation was created in 2015:

it was an early start into planning what activities should be possible within the room, what speakers should be included and how much inventory.

The room planning has been made with very accurate size.

Taking what was already there
to studio priorities

With the aim in 2021 to use this room for sound only and later also with the standard of using all the space needed to come as close as possible to mastering standards, detailed measurements decided the listening spot, position of the speakers and further details.
Below there is a bit of the timeline of construction.
First for Mixing only, later with mastering in mind.

Putting Mixing into Studio A

The Picture on the left shows the more final state when Studio B still was focused on Mixing. With a slight asymmetry the most important points had been treated with GIK.
In the end it was however not enough and so the new plans were to create a budget mastering solution.
Basically making the whole room focused on sound only with every consequence that comes with it.

Currently half of the room volume is stuffed with air-packed Rockwool to get the most effect out of cheap money.
On the right the final speaker placement has just been found (excluding the speakers on the ground).

Technical Specifications

Listener Spot:
Distance between Speakers (elliterate triangle):
Stereo 2D Diffusion at dual 30° reflection angle (speaker to diffusor, diffusor to ear)
Skyline Diffusion at the ceiling 60°, behind the listener spot

Front Wall Absorbing:
Rockwool Absorber with minimum 50cm thickness everywhere possible

In Comparison to Studio A the wooden room does not trap bass so well, which is actually noticeable. The Bass sounds more "free", less problematic than in Studio A, like it was in a bigger room than just 30m^3. With the ton of thick treatment a smooth bass response is possible.

The used Subwoofer produces 40Hz upwards and is angled and placed to use the farthest space for it's wave distribution, without being too close to the edges. Although bass is unidirectional this placement still helps distributing the produced pressure from the 10" cone evenly in the room and on both ears.

Being a Budget Solution the CrossOver produces a lot of inaudible and low-volume frequencies until the employed KRK G4s finally blast at their full power. (see measurements for details)
Maybe in the future the Sub will be swapped with the Temblor T10 from Studio A.

INSTEAD
TAKE A LOOK AT STUDIO A

Studio A is completely finished, measured and calibrated.

More Photos soon!

Studio B is finished regarding the basic placement of speakers, seats and treatments.

Some aesthetic improvments around the treatment need to be done.

Final measurements will decide whether there's still something to change.

After that I can finally fill this page with actual pictures.

The header photo of the FSS OVERVIEW Page has been Studio B when it was still used for mixing. The boxes at the sides are Vintage Magnat All Ribbon 6 Speakers.
